7-Keto is a natural metabolite of the human hormone DHEA which does not convert into the sex steroids, testosterone or estrogens. Previous research and patents focused on its anti-aging benefits: increasing energy, strengthening the immune system, and enhancing memory. Now, the newest research promises to help people control their body weight and body fat.

Clinical Trial Evaluating Keto-7 Effects on Body Weight
An independent clinical research organization…conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled eight week clinical trial evaluating 7-Keto’s effects on body weight and body fat. Results of the study, published in the October 1999 issue (Vol.2 No. 4) of the Journal of Exercise Physiology Online, revealed that a combination of exercise and supplementation with 7-Keto, as supplied by Humanetics Corporation, leads to a significant reduction in both body weight and body fat in overweight adults.
The participants in the study were healthy adults over the age of 30 (mean age of 44.5), who were exercising (pre-study) a minimum of three times per week for 45 minutes per session. The study diet for both groups was established at 1800 kcalories and followed the guidelines of the National Cholesterol Education Program Step One diet (NCEP-1). The treatment group received supplements of 100mg of 7-Keto twice daily. The placebo group received supplements of 100mg of maltodextrin twice daily. Both groups’ exercise regimen was one hour of cross training three times per week. The following testing/data gathering was performed at each clinic visit:
- BIA (cellular hydration status)
- Blood pressure
- Serum Multiple Chemistries (SMAC-18)
- Thyroid Function Tests (T4, T3, TSH)
- Three day diet recall and analysis (SMAC-18)
Significant Reduction of Body Weight
The study indicated a statistically significant reduction of both body weight and body fat in the 7-Keto group and no similar effect in the placebo group. At the conclusion of the trial, those in the 7-Keto group had lost an average of 1.8% of their initial body fat, while the placebo group had lost 0.57% of their body fat. In terms of weight loss, the group that was treated with 7-Keto had lost 6.35 pounds of body weight by the end of the trial, compared to 2.13 pounds of body weight lost by the placebo group.
These results demonstrated that 7-Keto is three times more effective than diet and exercise alone in promoting weight and fat loss. The parameters of the study ruled out differences in exercise, diet and body water as causal factors for the changes in weight and body composition seen in this study.
Over the counter Weight Loss Tablet
7-Keto also fares well in comparison to a number of prescription weight loss drugs. The daily supplement of 200mg of 7-Keto resulted in an average weight loss of 0.36kg per week, falling in the middle range compared to weight loss drugs which range from a high of 0.63kg per week for Fen-Phen and a low of 0.19kg per week for Dexfenfluramine. On the safety front, 7-Keto comes out on top, as there were no adverse side effects reported throughout the study, unlike several of the weight loss drugs.
7-Keto DHEA: An Alternative to DHEA
The quest for 7-Keto DHEA can be considered the search for the ultimate DHEA. 7-Keto DHEA is a tremendous breakthrough for consumers seeking safe anti-aging pathways to turn back, or slow, the hands of time. 7-Keto DHEA is one of more than 150 metabolites of DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone), a mother precursor hormone that is naturally produced by the adrenal gland and source of many other full-fledged hormones, including the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone. In recent controlled studies and based on anecdotal clinical evidence, DHEA has been shown to improve sense of well-being, immune and mental function in middle aged men and women, as well as revving up their bodies’ muscle tone.
DHEA Levels Fall With Age
We know that as people age, their DHEA levels begin to fall until by age 75 to 80, only minimal amounts of this youth substance remain in the blood-stream. Diminished levels may impair immune function and increase one’s risk for age-related diseases and conditions such as heart disease, obesity, skin wrinkling, and possibly even some cancers.
DHEA has been used by general practitioners and has been very useful for chronic fatigue syndrome, but I have also had success using it for arthritis sufferers, patients with Alzheimer’s disease and chronic pain syndrome.
The benefits for DHEA outweigh the risks for almost everyone, especially in an aging population. As DHEA is converted to testosterone and estrogens in the body, in some patients, these hormones are useful in increasing libido, improving skin tone and musculature. However, there has been a concern about negative effects sex hormones can have such as excess estrogen in men and the reverse of excess testosterone in women.
Problem solved: A derivative of DHEA which is more potent and has the same therapeutic benefit but doesn’t convert to sex hormones would clearly be an answer to this problem. Fortunately, we now have the opportunity to reap the many benefits of DHEA without increased levels of sex hormones.
7-Keto Safer Form of DHEA
7-Keto DHEA may be the best solution at hand today to the DHEA dilemma. Unlike conventional, first-generation DHEA, 7-Keto DHEA is not converted into the sex hormones in the human body; hence, it is safer, yet retains the same powerful impact on many health parameters.
It is believed that this form of DHEA works by competing for the receptors that normally function with glucocorticiod levels in older people are so high, in fact, that they tend to impair immune activity. 7-Keto DHEA may well cause the body to rejuvenate by improving the glucocorticoid/DHEA ratio.
How 7-Keto DHEA Works
In conclusion, with 7-Keto DHEA in one’s life, one should benefit by being a healthier individual with less chance of serious illness. If you are already afflicted with a chronic disease, 7-Keto DHEA will provide an improvement to your quality of life. Used long term, it may ameliorate the effects of aging, particularly risk for obesity, wrinkling, memory loss, and nagging viral and bacterial infections.
